<title>Hardening in LiF, induced by fast Kr and Ni ions, and recovery of the structure and properties under annealing</title>
2005
The recovery of optical and mechanical properties of LiF crystals irradiated with 790 MeV 78Kr and 640 MeV 58Ni ions at 10l2 ions/cm2 under annealing at temperatures up to 810 K is investigated. The optical absorbance and depth profiles of hardness before and after annealing were measured. A marked recovery of hardness and change in the optical absorption spectra were observed at temperatures above 520-530 K. An activation energy of 0.15±0.02eV, which is close to that for the thermal migration of H centers, is obtained from the annealing data. The results indicate a significant role of the H-center aggregates in the hardening and annealing processes. The maximum hardening is created and the…
Amplified spontaneous emission of pyranyliden derivatives in PVK matrix
2016
One of the well-known red light emitting laser dyes is 4-(dicyanomethylene)-2-methyl-6-(4-dimethylaminostyryl)-4Hpyran ( DCM ). Amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) has been widely investigated of DCM molecules or its derivatives in polymer or low molecular weight matrix. The main issue for these molecules is aggregation which limits doping concentration in matrix. Lowest ASE threshold values within concentration range of 2 and 4 wt% were obtained. In this work ASE properties of two original DCM derivatives in poly(N-vinylcarbazole) ( PVK ) at various concentrations will be discussed. One of the derivatives is the same DCM dye with replaced butyl groups at electron donor part with bulky try…

Ionization Energies of ClO and Cl2O2
1996
The ionization energies of chlorine oxide (ClO) and its dimer (Cl2O2) have been measured using monochromatic synchrotron radiation in the 10−20 eV energy regime in combination with photoionization mass spectrometry. The threshold energy of ClO+ (m/z = 51) is found at 10.85 ± 0.05 eV, whereas the ionization threshold of Cl2O2+ (m/z = 102) occurs at 11.05 ± 0.05 eV. The experimental values are compared to results from ab initio calculations, where three stable isomers of Cl2O2 are considered: dichlorine peroxide (ClOOCl), chloryl chloride (ClClO2), and chlorine chlorite (ClOClO). The results indicate that the experimental threshold energy of Cl2O2+ is due to adiabatic ionization of ClOOCl. T…
Adsorption dynamics of molecular nitrogen at an Fe(111) surface.
2017
We present an extensive theoretical study of N adsorption mechanisms on an Fe(111) surface. We combine the static analysis of a six-dimensional potential energy surface (6D-PES), based on ab initio density functional theory (DFT) calculations for the system, with quasi-classical trajectory (QCT) calculations to simulate the adsorption dynamics. There are four molecular adsorption states, usually called γ, δ, α, and ε, arising from our DFT calculations. We find that N adsorption in the γ-state is non-activated, while the threshold energy is associated with the entrance channel for the other three adsorption states. Our QCT calculations confirm that there are activated and nonactivated paths …
EMMA - A New Underground Cosmic-Ray Experiment
2005
A new type of cosmic-ray experiment is under construction in the Pyh\"asalmi mine in the underground laboratory of the University of Oulu, Finland. It aims to study the composition of cosmic rays at and above the knee region. The experiment, called EMMA, will cover approximately 150 square-metres of detector area. The array is capable of measuring the multiplicity and the lateral distribution of underground muons, and the arrival direction of the air shower. The full-size detector is expected to run by the end of 2007.
Energy structure of thin films of carbazole derivatives with metal electrodes
2011
Study of charge carrier transport in organic electroluminescent devices, organic photovoltaic devices, and organic field-effect transistors is one of the most important points. In order to realize comparable electron and hole transport in thin organic films with electrodes the energy structure of such devices are of great importance. In this work, we have studied electrical properties and energy structure of two carbazole derivatives. The threshold energy of photoconductivity quantum efficiency is 2.90 eV and optical energy gap is 3.3 eV in thin films is obtained. The values of work function of ITO, Au, Cu and Pd electrodes are energetically close to conductivity level of holes and holes in…
Stability of carbon nanotubes under electron irradiation: Role of tube diameter and chirality
2005
As recent experiments demonstrate, the inner shells of multiwalled carbon nanotubes are more sensitive to electron irradiation than the outer shells. To understand the origin of such counterintuitive behavior, we employ a density-functional-theory based tight-binding method and calculate the displacement threshold energies for carbon atoms in single-walled nanotubes with different diameters and chiralities. We show that the displacement energy and the defect production rate strongly depend on the diameter of the nanotube and its chirality, with the displacement energy being lower, but saturating towards the value for graphite when the tube diameter increases. This implies that the threshold…
Mass and Γ3π0/Γγγ decay branching ratio of theη-meson from the p(γ, η)p reaction
1995
Near threshold photoproduction ofη-mesons from the proton has been measured at the MAMI accelerator with the TAPS spectrometer. The mass of theη-meson was deduced from the threshold energy forη-photoproduction. The result of m η =(547.12 ± 0.06 ± 0.25) MeV supports the low value of theη-mass reported from a dp →3Heη measurement at SATURNE in 1992. Theη-decay branching ratio Γ3π0/Γγγ was measured to be (0.832±0.005±0.012).
Photoelectrical properties of thin films of DMABI derivatives
2011
Organic thin films with semiconducting properties have been intensively studied in nowadays due to very promising applications in organic electronics, for example, organic photovoltaic. Among organic semiconductors, group of indandiones with their photoelectrical properties, thermal and chemical stability are good candidates for use in design of novel molecular electronic devices. We have investigated photoconductivity quantum efficiency and its spectral dependence of two dimetilaminobenzylidene-1,3-indandione derivatives. Values of the photoconductivity threshold energy and optical energy gap are obtained. These results are compared with calculated transfer energy gap estimated according t…
